Barack Obama’s Hypocritical Attacks Serve as a Distraction from His Failed Policies

Posted by Christopher Maloney on January 24, 2012

Barack Obama’s hypocrisy has reached epic levels - even for a high-tax, big-spending liberal such as himself.

The president would like for voters to believe that he is a man of the people, or better yet, a powerful community organizer intently focused on assisting a struggling American middle class – nothing could be further from the truth.

This evening when he addresses the nation for his third (and what we hope will be his final) State of the Union address, we can expect to hear more blame, and a lot of empty political rhetoric.

The editorial in this morning’s Columbus Dispatch took Barack Obama to task for his failed record and heated partisanship which continue to divide America:

“…the economic divide, or perception thereof, is being exploited by President Barack Obama in his effort to hang onto his own 1-percent lifestyle: employer-subsidized mansion, staff and jet.”

“Playing the money card could be a tough sell because while Obama is demonizing Wall Street and portraying himself as avenger of the downtrodden, he is Wall Street’s favorite candidate. In the first nine months of 2011, he raised $15.6 million from Wall Street for his re-election effort and for the Democratic National Committee. That’s more than all the early GOP frontrunners combined. He even beat Mitt Romney 2-1 in contributions from Bain Capital, which Romney helped start.”

Tonight’s State of the Union address will provide Barack Obama with yet another chance to trot out more political rhetoric and failed promises he’s shown time and again he isn’t capable of accomplishing.

The Associated Press: “As President Barack Obama prepares to deliver his annual address to Congress, many goals he outlined in previous State of the Union speeches remain unfulfilled.” (Erica Werner, “Mixed Record For Obama's State Of The Union Goals,” The Associated Press, 1/23/12)

  • In 2010, Obama Touted His Clean Energy Spending Record, Using A “California Business That Will Put A Thousand People To Work Making Solar Panels” As An Example Of His Vision For The Country.  OBAMA: “You can see the results of last year’s investments in clean energy – in the North Carolina company that will create 1,200 jobs nationwide helping to make advanced batteries; or in the California business that will put a thousand people to work making solar panels.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At State Of The Union Address, Washington, D.C., 1/27/10)
  • In 2010, Obama Said We Couldn’t Leave Americans With A “Mountain Of Debt.” OBAMA: “Let's invest in our people without leaving them a mountain of debt.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At State Of The Union Address, Washington, D.C., 1/27/10)
  • In 2010, Obama Said The Federal Government Should Be Like Families “Tightening Their Belts And Making Tough Decisions.” OBAMA: “But families across the country are tightening their belts and making tough decisions.  The federal government should do the same.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At State Of The Union Address, Washington, D.C., 1/27/10)
  • In 2011, Obama Said The Federal Government Should “Sacrifice To Live Within Their Means” Like American Families. OBAMA: “But now that the worst of the recession is over, we have to confront the fact that our government spends more than it takes in.  That is not sustainable.  Every day, families sacrifice to live within their means.  They deserve a government that does the same.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At State Of The Union Address, Washington, D.C., 1/25/11)
  • In 2011, Obama Said America Needed To Make Sure “We Aren’t Buried Under A Mountain Of Debt.” OBAMA: “Now, the final critical step in winning the future is to make sure we aren’t buried under a mountain of debt.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At State Of The Union Address, Washington, D.C., 1/25/11)

It has been 1,000 days since Sherrod Brown and Senate Democrats have passed a budget.  During this period of time, America has acquired an additional $4 trillion in debt.  But don’t expect to hear Barack Obama mention this auspicious anniversary this evening.  Instead, he will continue to advance his distinguished track record of broken State of the Union promises, all while launching divisive class-based attacks against the very people who possess the opportunity and resources to fix our struggling economy.
