(Columbus) - Ohio Republican Party Chairman Kevin DeWine issued the following statement today on the 10 percent unemployment rate released by the Strickland administration:
"The governor will try to spin this data as a sign of recovery, but, just like his poll numbers, the underlying trends tell an entirely different story.
Ohio has now seen 18 straight months of double-digit unemployment rates, and this latest report shows the state lost more than 17,000 jobs in September alone. Add that to the 15,400 jobs lost in August, and you'll find that Ohio lost more than 32,000 jobs in a mere 60 days. That's hardly a recovery. Instead of adding jobs, this report shows more people are either exhausting their unemployment benefits or simply giving up hope of finding work.
The Strickland administration failed to turn around Ohio's economy, and the governor is obsessed with blame rather than solutions. If anyone in Ohio deserves to lose a job, it's Ted Strickland."
