Coalition Groups

Coalitions are important to the Ohio Republican Party.

We recognize the immediate need for a consistent, full time outreach program at the Ohio Republican Party. For years, our program consisted of putting together a handful of coalition groups for a few months before each election and asking them to recruit volunteers for our voter contact programs. We need to reach beyond these temporary, superficial "outreach" efforts to establish a day-to-day relationship with every key voter bloc - youth, seniors, values voters, sportsmen, veterans, business leaders, unions, Latinos (Ohio's fastest-growing demographic group), African Americans, independents, and others. Statistics prove you simply cannot win elections nationally or statewide with only Republican voters.

We should embrace ideas such as the "40 under 40" proposal challenging our party leaders to fill 40 percent of our open, non-incumbent races with candidates under theage of 40. We should explore opportunities to promote our candidates and elected leaders in non-traditional ways, such as hosting a campus symposium, advertising on Latino radio stations, or using micro-targeting data throughout the year, not just around an election, to communicate directly with voters based on their interest.

Of course, building a majority means we must, on occasion, allow for opposing points of view while uniting under the same fundamental philosophy. Our platform states, "We do not fear disagreement, and we do not demand conformity, but we do fight for our principles with confidence that the best ideas will prevail in the end."

Apps Akpofure is our new Deputy Director of Outreach here at the Party and he is looking forward to meeting with you and hearing how we can connect and work together. You can reach Apps here.

Thanks for your interest in Coalitions!
