The Ohio Republican Party is working hard to reach out to the nation's fastest-growing minority constituency. We appointed the first Hispanic outreach coordinator for any political party in the Midwest, and our record of support for Hispanics in public office is unmatched. Ohio Republican Gov. Jim Rhodes was the first to establish a state Commission on Hispanic & Latino Affairs, and Ohio Republican Governor Bob Taft has appointed more Hispanics to his administration than any previous Ohio governor. Our party also holds the honor of appointing the first Hispanic U.S. Treasurer, the first Hispanic presidential cabinet member and the first Hispanic Surgeon General. President George W. Bush is the first U.S. president to deliver a national radio address in Spanish.
The Ohio Republican Hispanic Assembly was created to continue that outreach by providing Hispanics with a forum to participate in local, state and national public service. The group meets regularly to discuss candidate recruitment, promote ideas and issues of concern to the Hispanic community and mobilize Hispanic volunteers to advance the Republican agenda.
