Boehner: "Where are the Jobs?"

Friday, February 5, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Republican Leader John Boehner(R-OH) issued the following statement after the Department of Labor reported that the U.S. economy lost 20,000 jobs in the month of January:

"Today's report confirms that the U.S. economy has lost nearly 3.3 million jobs since President Obama signed the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus' into law.

"Washington Democrats promised that the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus' would create jobs ‘immediately', keep the unemployment rate from going above eight percent and that 90 percent of the jobs created would be private-sector jobs.  None of that has occurred, and the Obama Administration's job-killing policies are only making matters worse.

"This report shows why Washington Democrats need to end the uncertainty caused by caused by proposals like the government takeover of health care, the ‘cap-and-trade' national energy tax, the out-of-control spending, and the slew of tax hikes in the President's job-killing budget.  Americans are asking ‘where are the jobs?' but all they are getting from out-of-touch Washington Democrats is more government and more debt.

"Of course, any drop in the unemployment rate is welcome and our economy will ultimately recover, but it will do so because of the hard work and entrepreneurship of the American people, not wasteful Washington spending.  Republicans have proposed the only jobs plan focused on helping small businesses create jobs to get our economy moving again."
