COLUMBUS - Marine Veteran and State Representative Josh Mandel (R-Lyndhurst) filed petitions containing nearly 3,000 signatures with the Ohio Secretary of State on Wednesday to secure his place on the ballot as the Republican candidate for Ohio Treasurer of State.
"I have driven 69,825 miles across this state over the past year to listen to voters' concerns in every part of Ohio, and I am proud to say that the grassroots network of volunteers we built went out and collected signatures in 70 of Ohio's counties," Mandel said. "We are continuing to build momentum, and we will keep running the disciplined, tech-savvy campaign that people have come to expect from us."
Mandel's campaign reported more than $2 million cash on hand for the January 29th campaign finance report, opening up a 3-to-1 cash advantage over his Democratic opponent.
Mandel has proven himself to be a fiscal conservative on both the local and state level, and his experience with public finance has prepared him well for the office of State Treasurer. Mandel will be vital to the Republican statewide ticket next November as he reaches out to younger voters and veterans, as well as swing voters in his base of northeast Ohio.
"I am prepared to be a watchdog for Ohioans hard-earned tax dollars and am prepared to do all I can to eliminate government waste and spending and to promote business-friendly policies," Mandel continued.
Mandel solidified his reputation as a grassroots campaigner in his first election for State Representative in 2006 - convincingly winning his district after knocking on 19,679 doors and wearing out three pairs of shoes. In 2008, Josh was re-elected while receiving 71% of the vote, despite the fact that his district has a 2:1 Democrat to Republican voter ratio.
