Rob Portman Officially Enters U.S. Senate Race with Signatures from All 88 Counties

Thursday, February 18, 2010

COLUMBUS, OH - The Portman for Senate campaign today officially filed nominating petitions for Ohio's U.S. Senate race with signatures gathered from each one of Ohio's 88 counties.  The petitions formally declare Rob Portman's candidacy and were filed this morning with the Secretary of State.

"I'm honored to have the support of so many Ohioans who share my concern about the direction of our state and country and who are looking for common-sense solutions to our economic problems," Portman said.  "This campaign is going to be about how working together, we can turn things around and put people back to work in Ohio where we have lost more than 300,000 jobs since the Strickland-Fisher administration took office.  While my opponents support the same, tired proposals that have resulted in continued job losses and record deficits, we will be focused on new ideas to move us forward.

"Today, as we make the official filing for the U.S. Senate, I thank the many thousands of Ohioans who have already joined our cause over the past year.  I look forward to reaching out to all Ohioans so that we can work together for a better, more hopeful, future."

NOTE: This afternoon, Portman began his sixth RV tour throughout Ohio since announcing his candidacy last January.  While on this tour, he will hold campaign events in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Lake, Summit, Medina, Portage and Summit counties.  He will also keynote Lincoln Day Dinners in Lake, Portage and Medina counties and will speak at the Ashtabula Lincoln Day Breakfast.
