COLUMBUS, OH - Rob Portman issued the following statement regarding Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher winning the Democratic Senate primary:
"Tonight I called Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher to congratulate him on winning the Democratic primary, and I told him that I look forward to a spirited general election campaign based on the issues. To me, the most important issue facing Ohioans is our struggling economy and the devastating loss of jobs. Our unemployment rate is the highest it's been in decades, and never have we had so many Ohioans out of work for so long.
"Since the $800 billion stimulus package passed 15 months ago, Ohio has lost almost 200,000 jobs. The fundamental question that Ohioans will face in November is whether we will continue to watch our economic prosperity slip away, or whether we will take on the status quo in Washington and chart a new direction that includes stopping the fiscal irresponsibility and job-killing proposals coming out of Washington. Tomorrow I will be announcing my jobs plan to turn things around in Washington and move Ohio's economy forward."
