Governor Ted Strickland’s office took credit for Republican-enacted tax cuts today, issuing a press release touting the reduction in withholding rates for 2008.
“These income tax cuts will provide Ohio families more money each paycheck to invest in what matters most to them,” Strickland said in the release.
“This is a farce. Ted Strickland wasn’t even around when these tax cuts were enacted and Democrats did everything they could to keep them from happening,” said Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine, who actually was part of the legislature that passed the tax cuts. “This is nothing more than Ted Strickland trying to take credit for something he didn’t do because he has yet to accomplish anything he campaigned on last year.”
Strickland’s “support” of the tax cuts stands in direct contrast to the rest of his party. Every Democrat in the House and Senate, including Democrat Party Chairman Chris Redfern and Attorney General Marc Dann, voted against the tax relief. Dann even filed a protest of the bill, claiming the tax cuts would “negatively impact” Ohio businesses and families.
