Good Evening, The Republican National Convention was an inspiring and patriotic show of leadership. In sharp contrast with the Democrats’ own doom and gloom messaging, Republicans reminded Americans of how strong and great our country truly is. The Democrats recruited Hollywood celebrities to their events while Republicans highlighted supporters from middle America and all walks of life. There could not be more differences between what has become a radicalized party, and the one which our great president, Donald Trump, leads. From criminal justice reform and job creation to fighting China and de-regulation, President Trump has been a champion for every community in America. With plans to make the United States the manufacturing superpower of the world, anchor medical supply chains in our own country, and expand opportunity zones, President Trump highlighted an ambitious agenda for his second term on Thursday night. He is a president who always puts Americans, and America, first. President Trump stayed true to his first-term promises. I know we can count on him to do the same throughout the next four years. The choice could not be clearer for voters, and President Trump said it best: “How can the Democrat Party ask to lead our country when it spends so much time tearing down our country?” Sincerely, Jane M. Portman’s Message on Importance of Re-Electing President Trump During this week’s GOP convention, U.S. Senator Rob Portman reiterated why the presidential race is so critical to Ohio and our nation. Portman, who was one of the first U.S. Senators to endorse the president’s re-election back in February of last year, released the following statement: “Working with President Trump, we passed historic tax reform, drug treatment and recovery measures, criminal justice reform, and the biggest piece of conservation legislation in a generation. The Senate has confirmed a record number of his judicial nominees – smart men and women who will not legislate from the bench. And working together we built the strongest economy our nation has ever seen. With COVID-19, now we must do it again. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are fighting for higher taxes for middle class families, job-killing regulations, the Green New Deal, and government-run health care. Their policies would be bad for Ohio jobs and bad for Ohio middle-class families. Ohio and our nation need someone who will help rebuild our economy again, stronger than ever before as we recover from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and that’s why I support Donald Trump.”
Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted Send Video Greetings for Trump RNC Address Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted sent Ohio RNC delegates and watch party guests across the state video greetings before President Trump’s convention address Thursday. Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine and Second Lady Tina Husted also joined in the video message. In case you missed it, you can watch the video below:
Husted Works to Grow Next Generation of Tech Talent Lt. Governor Husted this week encouraged businesses to enroll in Ohio’s Diversity & Inclusion Internship Program, which works to grow the state’s future tech talent. The program pairs college students who want to start a career in a technology field with businesses with a demand for talent. Businesses that sign up will be paired with an intern and reimbursed for up to 2/3 of that intern’s wages. The Lt. Governor emphasized that this program support’s the administration’s goal of strengthening Ohio’s workforce in growing fields. Yost Announces $85 Million Multistate Settlement with Honda Attorney General Dave Yost announced that Ohio will receive about $2.3 million from Honda as part of an $85 million settlement stemming from defective airbag systems. Yost and attorneys general from 48 states settled a lawsuit with Honda over allegations the automaker concealed safety issues related to defective airbag systems. “I’d never buy a car if I knew systems meant to save me and my family could actually hurt us,” Yost said. “That is what Honda denied to Ohio consumers – the chance to make the best decisions for their families. This agreement will ensure that doesn’t happen again.” You can read more about Ohio’s involvement here. LaRose Busts Election Myths About Absentee Ballots This week, Secretary LaRose posted a video busting an election myth that was circulating saying that absentee ballots in Ohio are not secure and confidential. As LaRose explains, in Ohio, this accusation cannot be further from the truth. Absentee voting is done right in Ohio. With signature matching, confidential envelopes and ballot tracking through VoteOhio.gov/Track, Ohioans can choose this option and know their vote will be counted. Of course, Ohioans still have the option to take advantage of in person voting this election through early voting at their county board of elections or at their polling location on Election Day.
Faber Joins Lima Republicans to Celebrate President Trump’s Renomination This week, Auditor of State Keith Faber joined Republicans in Lima to watch President Trump be nominated as the Republican candidate for president. Auditor Faber has been a staunch supporter of the President and has travelled the state reminding Ohioans why it’s so important to re-elect President Trump this November. Watch his latest pitch here.
Treasurer Sprague Revs Up the Crowd in Kettering Ahead of the RNC On Monday, Treasurer Sprague joined volunteers in Kettering to gear up for the week’s Republican National Convention. Energy and excitement was sky high in anticipation of President Trump formally accepting the party’s nomination. During his visit, Treasurer Sprague commended the crowd for all their hard work and urged them to keep the momentum going through Election Day.
Kennedy Discusses Veterans’ Issues with Retired Colonel Michael Brown
It was another great week on the campaign trail for Justice Sharon L. Kennedy. She began the week in Southwest Ohio meeting with friends in Brown and Adams, and attending a rally in Warren. She ended in Northeast Ohio with an event in Carroll and doors in Lake. In between that she participated in the first virtual Hamilton County Judicial Salute and was interviewed on the Ohio podcast, Crisis in America – PTSD and Veteran Suicides about her Lean Forward initiative.
“Colonel Michael Brown is an American hero. He and his family have served and sacrificed so much for our country. I am honored to have met him and to have been asked to speak on the podcast,” said Sharon. “The Crisis in America – PTSD and Veteran Suicides podcast brings to the forefront the invisible wounds of war and the mental health toll that has been taken on the men and women who have served. Across America we should all Lean Forward into the problems facing our returning servicemembers to ensure that they come wholly home.”
Justice French Added to Her Broad Coalition of Endorsements This Week
The Ohio Teamsters joined the Iron Workers, ACT Ohio, the Ohio Chamber, Ohio NFIB, Ohio Manufacturers Association and many other groups representing a large coalition of business and labor groups supporting her re-election.
