Sen. Jon Husted, R-Kettering, on Monday announced top staff appointments for his new job as secretary of state. Husted begins his new job in January.

Scott Borgemenke, Assistant Secretary of State

Borgemenke was chief of staff for Husted when Husted was Ohio House Speaker, will be assistant secretary of state and chief of staff in the secretary of state’s office.

Borgemenke is acting vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer at the University of Akron. He also was chief policy adviser and director of cabinet affairs for Gov. Bob Taft.

Borgemenke also served as chief of staff in the Ohio Senate.

Jack Christopher, legal counsel.

Christopher was former chief legal counsel and deputy chief of staff in the Ohio House.

Matthew Damschroder, deputy assistant secretary of state-director of elections.

Damschroder is a former director of the Franklin County Board of Elections in Columbus and currently is deputy director of the Franklin County board.

Betsy Luper Schuster, chief elections counsel.

Schuster currently is a commissioner at the Ohio Court of Claims and hearing officer for various state departments and agencies.

Maggie Ostrowski, director of communications.

Ostrowski now is communications director and spokeswoman for the Ohio Senate Republican Caucus.

Christine Morrison, director of legislative affairs.

Morrison is a policy assistant in the Ohio Senate and is a former director of policy in the Ohio House.
