Will be considered by Republican National Committee in August
ALBUQUERQUE - The Republican National Committee Rules Committee today voted to send the Ohio Plan proposed by Bob Bennett, Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party, to the full membership of the Republican National Committee for consideration in August. The full Committee will determine what gets sent to the Republican National Convention Rules Committee in September.
The Ohio Plan was one of six plans submitted to the Rules Committee and combined many of the key elements in the other plans that were considered. The Ohio Plan provides for Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada to hold their respective contests first to preserve retail politics in the nominating process. The remaining states are grouped by similar electoral vote totals into four "pods"; small states and territories with up to five electoral votes will go first and the remaining states with six or more electoral votes are divided into three rotating groups of similar electoral vote totals.
"I appreciate the Rules Committee's desire to tackle such an important issue facing our Party. The Committee has taken the important, early step towards making real, lasting change in the nominating process. We are in the in the second inning of a nine inning game and I look forward to a serious discussion over the next few months between members and convention delegates as we work to produce a process that is fair and engaging to voters in every state," said Bennett.
The Ohio Plan, developed by Bennett, is designed to ensure that states of all sizes have the opportunity to play an integral role in the Presidential nominating process every four years.
